Ronny Mauricio Homers in Syracuse Loss
Two days after the offense exploded for ten runs, the bats were largely silent, save for a Home Run from Ronny Mauricio. In this two-rain delayed game, the team’s defensive struggles were the main story of the game. An error by Ji Hwan Bae prevented the first out of the game and the inning snowballed from there leading to five runs, two of which were earned. A later throwing error by Bae prevented the inning from ending, allowing two runs to score. Carl Edwards was also not sharp that inning, allowing hard contact left and right. But between those errors and poor defense overall, it was a miracle only five runs scored.

Box Score
Batters
- LF MJ Melendez 1-for-3 (.495 OPS)
- CF Nick Morabito 1-for-3, K (.717 OPS)
- 3B Ronny Mauricio 1-for-3, HR, RBI, K (.563 OPS)
- 1B Ryan Clifford 0-for-3, 3 K (.450 OPS)
- DH Jose Rojas 0-for-2, BB (.635 OPS)
- RF Cristian Pache 0-for-2, 2 K (.364 OPS)
- 2B Ji Hwan Bae 0-for-2 (.700 OPS)
- C Hayden Senger 0-for-1, BB, K (.764 OPS)
- SS Jackson Cluff 0-for-2, K (.000 OPS)
The Syracuse Mets only amassed three hits, though part of that was because the game was called for rain after the seventh inning. MJ Melendez’s double was 112.7 miles per hour off the bat, one of his hardest balls of his career. While Josh Rojas did not record a hit, two of his outs came on hard hit balls, one at 107.6 miles per hour and the other at 103.1. Ronny Mauricio’s 99.3 miles per hour home run is impressive because it came off a left-handed pitcher, and Mauricio has struggled in the past when facing left-handed pitching.
- RHP Carl Edwards Jr. (L, 0-1) 4.0 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K (4.50 ERA)
- RHP Jordan Geber, Jor 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K (0.00 ERA)
- RHP Alex Carrillo, A 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K (6.75 ERA)
The positives for Carl Edwards Jr. are that he generated significant chase, and he located his fastball well. But he struggled to generate much whiff, gave up hard contact, and did not attack the zone, walking three off a 40.8% zone rate. Jordan Gerber also struggled to find the strike zone, but his stuff graded out much better overall leading to a 27.8% whiff rate and 29.6% chase rate. His splitter performed very well with no on making contact with it. Carrillo only threw seven pitches, but the slider looked even better than the plus stuff he flashed last year, and if he continues to pitch like this, he could force his way into some major league innings in 2026.
All four of the Mets full season affiliates with be in action on Friday and the Low-A St. Lucie Mets begin their season the day before.
