Trump Says US Could Exit Iran War in Two or Three Weeks
President Donald Trump said the United States could leave the Iran war within two or three weeks, whether or not Tehran agrees to a deal.
US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Washington could wind down its military campaign against Iran within two to three weeks, signaling a possible shift toward ending the conflict.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said the United States would be “leaving very soon” and suggested the war could end within a matter of weeks. Reuters reported that he did not tie the end of military operations directly to a formal agreement with Tehran, indicating Washington may choose to exit even without a comprehensive deal.
Trump’s comments mark a notable softening after earlier warnings from US officials that military action could intensify if Iran rejected a Washington-backed ceasefire framework. The White House has also said Trump is expected to deliver a formal address to the American public soon to outline the latest developments on Iran.
At the same time, the administration appears to be balancing military pressure with diplomatic maneuvering. Recent reporting has suggested Trump is increasingly reluctant to prolong a campaign that risks higher economic costs, deeper regional instability and more domestic political fallout at home.
The remarks also come amid confusion over Washington’s strategic endgame, especially around the Strait of Hormuz. Reuters has reported that Trump has signaled the US may not insist on fully reopening the waterway before winding down operations, a position that would leave a major unresolved pressure point in the conflict.
Diplomatic efforts to stop the war have also intensified in recent days. China and Pakistan both publicly called this week for an immediate ceasefire and a negotiated solution, while also urging the protection of civilian infrastructure and the safe passage of commercial shipping through Hormuz.
The war, which began in late February, has already triggered regional military escalation, civilian casualties and severe disruptions to energy flows and trade. It has also raised political pressure on Trump inside the United States as fuel costs and war fatigue become more visible issues.
Even so, Trump’s statement does not necessarily mean an immediate ceasefire is imminent. Analysts note that Washington may still intensify selected strikes in the short term to improve its negotiating leverage or shape the battlefield before any final drawdown begins.
If the timeline holds, the coming two to three weeks could prove decisive for both diplomacy and regional security. Whether the conflict ends through a formal deal or an informal military wind-down, the consequences are likely to shape the Middle East well beyond the battlefield.
