UAE Suspends All Visa Categories for Iranians Over Security Concerns
The United Arab Emirates has suspended all visa categories for Iranian nationals, citing immediate travel and security measures amid heightened regional tensions.
Flydubai said the restrictions apply to Iranian nationals holding Iranian passports, including many travelers with UAE visit, tourist and residency documents. Reuters reported that the measures also affect transit passengers using Dubai as a connecting hub, sharply tightening travel access at a time of heightened regional tension.
The airline said only limited exceptions remain in place. According to the advisory cited by Reuters, some exemptions may apply, including certain family members of UAE citizens and, in some cases, specific visa categories subject to prior approval and documentation checks.
The decision has created uncertainty for many Iranians living in or linked to the UAE, particularly those currently outside the country. Recent reports and traveler accounts indicate that some residents have been left unable to board flights or return to Dubai, deepening confusion over how the policy is being enforced.
Dubai has long served as one of the most important commercial and transit gateways for Iranians traveling to Europe, Asia and beyond. The new restrictions therefore carry consequences not only for tourism and family travel, but also for business, medical visits and residency-linked movement.
The move comes as airlines across the Gulf continue to operate under reduced schedules and heightened security restrictions due to the regional conflict. Flydubai’s own operational updates have warned of rerouting, disruptions and changing travel requirements across the Middle East.
The UAE has been under growing regional security pressure since the escalation of the Iran conflict, with Gulf states tightening aviation, border and internal security procedures. Travel rules have shifted rapidly in recent weeks, often leaving passengers dependent on airline advisories rather than formal public announcements.
For years, Dubai has functioned as a critical lifeline for Iranian travelers, traders and expatriates because of its proximity, flight connectivity and business links. Any prolonged restriction is therefore likely to have wider social and economic implications beyond immediate travel disruption.
