Tiger Woods Breaks Silence With First Message Since DUI Arrest
Tiger Woods is stepping away from the game of golf and the public eye, he announced in the first statement since his DUI arrest.
Woods, a 15-time major champion, was involved in a roll-over car crash on Friday, Mar. 27. In the arrest affidavit released by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday morning, officers described Woods as "lethargic," and reported two hydrocodone pills found in his pocket.
Woods passed a breathalyzer test, but refused to submit to a urine test. On Tuesday, he submitted a plea of not guilty to charges of misdemeanor DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health," Woods wrote on social media. "This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery."
"I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally," he continued. "I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time."

Woods is represented by Attorney Douglas Duncan, the same lawyer who represented him when he was arrested under suspicion of DUI in 2017.
Woods waived his arraignment hearing, which was originally scheduled for April 23.
