Man arrested after allegedly strangling 18-year-old to death in Montreal apartment
An 18-year-old woman was found dead in a Montreal apartment on Tuesday afternoon, and a 20-year-old man was arrested at the scene, police said, in what investigators have confirmed is a homicide.
Around 12:30 p.m., police discovered a young woman unconscious in an apartment on Everett Street near 19th Avenue, according to Jean-Pierre Brabant, a spokesperson for the Montreal police.
The woman was likely strangled, The Gazette has learned, as first reported by Le Journal de Montréal. Brabant did not comment on this detail.
“Unfortunately, following CPR manoeuvres, she was pronounced dead on site yesterday. This is confirming a murder that occurred in this dossier,” Brabant said.
The investigation has been transferred to the police’s Major Crimes Unit, which was on scene Tuesday with a command post as investigators began analyzing evidence, said Brabant.
A 20-year-old man was arrested at the apartment and taken to a detention centre, Brabant added. The man is expected to be questioned by investigators.
It marks the sixth homicide reported in Montreal police territory so far in 2026.
