Reese Witherspoon's 'New Chapter' May Be Redefining Her Love Life After Jim Toth Divorce
Reese Witherspoon is keeping her personal life in the background after her 2023 divorce from Jim Toth, but she might be making a major move all in the name of love.
The 50-year-old Oscar winner has been in a serious relationship with financier Oliver Haarmann since July 2024. It’s what a source described to the Daily Mail as a “new chapter” in her life — one that might take her from her country roots in Nashville to New York City, where Haarmann lives.
“Reese is definitely a changed woman,” they revealed to the media outlet. “And it’s not just because of her boyfriend, Oliver. She used to just want this nice, peaceful life in Nashville, but now, it’s like everything’s changed, and the rumor in town is that she wants to have a place in New York City.”
It also makes sense since her son Deacon Phillippe, 22, whom she shared with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe, attends New York University.
“She’s expressed wanting to be close to her son and also close to her boyfriend, who lives and works there,” they continued. It’s a new chapter of her life – especially having just turned the big 50 – and she’s in a good place, very happy and excited about what the future holds.”
Witherspoon has been more low-key about her love life after her split from Toth because she felt like the headlines about her divorce “felt very out of control.”
“To be able to talk to people directly about what’s going on in my life and just share it in the way that I share great professional experiences or personal experiences, it feels much more authentic to be able to say things in my own voice and not let somebody else control what’s happening,” Witherspoon told Harper’s Bazaar in July 2023. “Then, of course, there’s speculation, but I can’t control that. All I can do is be my most honest, forthright self and be vulnerable.”
By August 2024, sources were telling People that Witherspoon was moving cautiously with Haarmann.
“[Witherspoon] is taking things slow when it comes to dating,” the insider claimed. “She enjoys it but doesn’t want it to be a big focus; she’s busy with work and her son. These are her biggest priorities.”
Now that her life probably feels more settled, a move to New York City to be closer to her boyfriend and family doesn’t seem as jarring as it would have only a few years ago.
Witherspoon and Haarmann met through “mutual friends in New York,” and “hit it off,” according to an August 2024 Life & Style report.
“She loves to talk business and money and ways to invest, and he’s so knowledgeable,” an insider shared. “The attraction grew from there. She’s loving the attention and is seeing where all this will go.”
