Tottenham Hotspur have finally secured their preferred managerial target, with Roberto De Zerbi now able to outline his vision at a crucial stage of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur have finally landed their preferred managerial target – Roberto De Zerbi – as they aim to improve their fortunes on the pitch.

The former Brighton manager arrives under significant pressure, tasked with restoring belief across the club while rebuilding the confidence of a deflated group of players.

Spurs’ trust in De Zerbi is quite evident, given the lengths they went to bring him to north London. De Zerbi has signed a five-year contract with a huge salary that puts him in the company of Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta.

Tottenham fans are now able to hear from their third – and hopefully last – manager this season, who they hope will hit the ground running and improve performances on the pitch.

De Zerbi, in one of his visits to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, clashed with Cristian Stellini in the Spurs dugout, but now the Italian will be leading Tottenham out for the rest of the season.

The 44-year-old has now opened up on what it means for him to have signed for Tottenham and what he aims to achieve during his time in north London.

De Zerbi said: “I am delighted to be joining this fantastic football club, which is one of the biggest and most prestigious in the world.

“In all my discussions with the Club’s leadership, their ambition for the future has been clear – to build a team capable of reaching great achievements, and to do that playing a style of football that excites and inspires our supporters. I am here because I believe in that ambition and have signed a long-term contract to give everything to deliver it.

“Our short-term priority is to climb the Premier League table, which will be the complete focus until the final whistle of the last game of the season. I’m looking forward to getting out on the training pitch and working with these players to achieve that.”

The timing of De Zerbi’s appointment is no doubt perfect for Tottenham, who do not take to the pitch again until April 12.

This should allow the new manager some time to get his principles and philosophy into this group of players before they take on Sunderland in his first match in charge.

That will, of course, be a big encounter for Tottenham, who will be desperate to start getting points on the board as they look to avoid relegation.
