'I want to': 22yo Man Utd loanee ready to step into the spotlight at Old Trafford
Manchester United are bracing for a major shake-up in their goalkeeping department ahead of a pivotal summer.
Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir are expected to leave the club permanently.
Veteran Tom Heaton remains a respected figure in the dressing room but he could soon hang up his boots. Reserve shot-stopper Dermot Mee could also be released.
United loanee Radek Vitek is enjoying a sensational 2025-26 season at Bristol City.
The 22-year-old is now strongly tipped for a first-team promotion next season, where he could battle Senne Lammens for the number one spot.
He told The Sun: “At this stage in my career, at a young age, I want to play as many games as possible. I wouldn’t benefit from sitting on the bench here, or anything else.
“I will communicate with Man United closely and we will see what’s going to be best for me next season. But I want to play football. I don’t want to just be somewhere sitting on the bench.
“I really appreciate the trust [United] are giving me. Obviously, I am going step by step.”
Vitek deserves promotion at United
Standing at 6ft 5in, Vitek is a strong goalkeeper who has shown the strength to deal with theatrics in the six-yard box.
Onana and Bayindir failed miserably in this area but Lammens has already shown how calm authority can restore defensive stability.
Lammens has impressed with his performances this season. His rise is even more remarkable considering this is only his second campaign as a first-choice goalkeeper.
Prior to his move to Old Trafford last summer for an initial £18.2 million on deadline day, he had no experience at a top European club.
However, United cannot afford to rely solely on him and must secure a dependable backup option.
Vítek presents an ideal in-house solution, eliminating the need for further spending in the transfer market.
He is contracted until 2028 and should get the opportunity to stake his claim next campaign.
Adapting to the Premier League will take time, and serving as a backup initially could prove invaluable for his development.
Patience will be key but when his moment arrives, he must seize it with both hands.
