AC/DC's Angus Young was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on March 31, 1955. His family would move to Australia when he was eight years old, and that's where he and his brother Malcolm later co-founded AC/DC. He grew up as the youngest of eight children in a very musical household.
What Makes Angus Young One of Rock's True Giants?
Typically, when people think of successful bands, it is the singer who comes to mind first and foremost. That makes sense since listeners get to connect with their voice, and singers often serve as the frontperson of the band. However, when most fans think of AC/DC, they envision Angus Young first due to his trademark schoolboy uniform look and his frenetic guitar playing. Being the most famous member of one of the most successful bands ever is what makes Young one of the biggest rock stars of all time.
There are several objective indications of AC/DC's status as one of the most legendary rock bands in music history. The top indication of that is that, according to Sony Music, the group has sold more than 200 million albums worldwide. On top of that, the band has had seven songs reach the Billboard Hot 100.
Every AC/DC Song to Reach the Billboard Hot 100:
- "Moneytalks"
- "You Shook Me All Night Long"
- "Back In Black"
- "Let's Get It Up"
- "Highway To Hell"
- "Big Gun (From Last Action Hero)"
- "Guns For Hire"
Another major indication of the band's incredible impact on the music world is the respect it receives from its peers. AC/DC's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 says a lot about how much respect they have earned. After all, induction decisions get made by a large group of industry insiders.
Angus Young has also been celebrated by music experts. In 2023, one of the most respected music outlets, Guitar World, ranked him and his brother, Malcolm Young, jointly at number 13 on its list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.
