Comedian Matt Rife Reveals His Favorite Video Game of All Time

Matt Rife, 30, is one of the most popular comedians in the world now. Probably best known for his boundary-pushing sense of humor and clever use of crowd work in some of his concerts, Rife has sold out arenas around the world. He is also a gamer and has now revealed his favorite video game of all time, and it may be a surprise to those that have not played the title.

In a post to X by Rife, he stated that The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is "one of the best games ever." In a reply to a fan on X who was asking for a remake of the game, Rife said, "I was just saying this! Update the graphics and relaunch."

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is a licensed movie-tie-in game that adapts part of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and the entirety of The Two Towers films. The game's opening level is a tutorial in which players control Isildur during the Battle of the Last Alliance, as depicted in the films.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers video game then moves players back to the Weathertop encounter between Aragorn and the Nazgul. After that level, players are free to choose between Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli to play through the rest of the game. All three characters feature unique weapons, animations, combos, and skills.

Chaining together attacks and combos and completing levels allows players to level up their selected character and unlock new skills and combos.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, which was originally released on October 21, 2002, just two months before the film, is currently sitting at an 82 metascore on Metacritic, making it one of the highest-rated movie-licensed video games of all time.

The game would be followed by The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, which kept the same gameplay style but increased the number of playable characters, added local two-player co-op, and environmental interactions. That game would also see similar praise from gamers and fans of the films.
