Golf Community Annoyed With ESPN's Jason Kelce Announcement
Jason Kelce is adding another role for ESPN, and many golf fans aren't exactly happy about it.
Kelce will serve as guest on-course reporter for The Masters Par 3 Contest at Augusta National next month, Front Office Sports reported Tuesday. The former Philadelphia Eagles star turned media sensation will conduct interviews with players and their families during the annual competition, which takes place on the Wednesday before the first round of the Masters the following day.
Kelce back on the links for the Worldwide Leader
This is Kelce's second golf job for ESPN. He previously served as a guest commentator for the final three matches of the TGL regular season on March 1-3.
Being at Augusta is a much more prestigious assignment, albeit in the relaxed environment of the Par 3 compared to the dressed-up Masters tournament.
Still, not everyone is enthused about this announcement.
'What the [bleep] is ESPN doing?'
Kelce was relatively anonymous in his role as the best center in the NFL for more than a decade, but he's become incredibly visible over the last few years thanks to his "New Heights" podcast with his brother Travis.
The success of "New Heights"--and Travis' relationship with Taylor Swift--has helped land Jason even more on-air opportunities. When it comes to his Masters announcing duties, some think it's a case of overexposure.
"The Masters is a tradition that cannot be matched. It doesn't need some overpaid comedian. Leave it to ESPN to ruin this as well," one person wrote on social media.
"Love Jason Kelce, but what in the absolute [bleep] is ESPN doing?" another person asked.
"I don’t get the appeal of him. He’s not funny or entertaining at all," a third person added.
"Oh great, just what the mecca of golf needs. Sleeveless dudebros shotgunning Miller Lites. Absolutely nothing is sacred anymore," a fourth person wrote.
"No one wants this. They’re making us hate a guy we don’t want to hate because they’re forced feeding him to us," a fifth commenter said.
"That’s awful, aren’t people sick of this guy?" a sixth asked.
Whatever you may think about it, Jason Kelce will be at The Masters Par 3 Contest on Wednesday, April 8. The 2026 Masters will take place April 9-12.
