Beloved Rock Keyboardist Dead at 75: Cause of Death Revealed
Christopher North, keyboardist of the rock band Ambrosia, has died at 75.
North's brother, Richard, told TMZ that the beloved rocker died from pneumonia, with which he had been hospitalized for three weeks.
In addition to surviving throat cancer, North was hit by a speeding car in Santa Monica, Calif. in October 2025 and hospitalized for two months. "Chris is now fighting for his life," Ambrosia member David Pack wrote on Facebook at the time, "and this comes after bravely surviving cancer." Friends and family believe these health struggles weakened him and ultimately led to his death.
After North's death, Pack wrote a touching tribute to his longtime friend on Facebook. "Chris could do it all," he wrote, "... And if you saw the original band live you couldn’t keep your eyes off of his wild and engaging stage persona. Most nights he’d bloody his hands on the B3 or break off keys. Ferocious is an understatement."
Pack went on to praise North's natural musical prowess. "He was a born bluesman + jazz & classical pianist, B3 organ badass + flute player," Pack gushingly wrote. "And when he sang his voice was a total guttural 'barrel house blues' style."
Car Accident Was Major Factor In Christopher North's Death
At the end of his tribute, Pack alluded that the October car accident was a major contributing factor in North's death. "I’ll write more about Chris as I’m too sad to continue," he began, "as it took him being hit by a car full speed while simply walking into his favorite restaurant in Santa Monica to finally take him out."
While North may be gone, Pack hinted that more music from him may still be on the horizon. "Goodbye my brother Chris," he wrote, "I’ll miss you and make sure your best works get released."
North is survived by his brother Richard, his son Reed, and his daughter Crystal.
