The Chaotic Way Khloé Kardashian Found Out About Lamar Odom’s Cheating Is Hard To Believe
A true Kardashian fan knows how much Khloé Kardashian loved Lamar Odom — she wore her heart on her sleeve for the former NBA star.
Unfortunately, the athlete’s demons would get the best of their marriage, and a new Netflix documentary, Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, is showing how it all unraveled. Kardashian gave rare insight into their relationship and how drugs and his frequent affairs became major stressors in their doomed romance.
They got engaged after dating for one month and immediately fast-tracked their wedding in 2009. It was a blissful time for them because Odom kept his addiction a secret until after they said, “I do.”
Kardashian and Odom gave their version of events the first time his infidelity was discovered.
“One night I [was] going to Big Bear, California, and I’m getting high out of my f—ing mind. The girl that I was with at the time, she must have been so blown back by it that she must have took my phone and contacted my wife,” he explained in the documentary.
Kardashian shared, “Out of the blue, I get this call, and she said, ‘Hi, I’ve been f—ing your husband. He is so f—ed up, and he just keeps wanting money and drugs, and I gotta get off this ride. So will you come and pick him up?’”
At the time, Kardashian admitted she had “suspicions” that he was stepping out of their marriage, but she “never had anything tangible” until that terrible moment.
It’s no secret to Keeping Up With the Kardashians viewers that Kardashian enabled Odom’s addiction by keeping it hidden from public view. It emotionally dragged both of them down into a dark abyss.
“When I really discovered that there was a problem, he was like, ‘You cannot tell anyone, I’ll lose it all. And if I lose it, where are we going to live?’” she said in the documentary. “At the time, I was 24. I’m still trying to figure out my life. I had the show, but we weren’t making money like that.”
Even though Kardashian filed for divorce in December 2013, she withdrew the petition in 2015 after his near-fatal overdose.
“The past week has been incredibly difficult,” Kardashian wrote on her website in October 2015, via Vanity Fair. “I am so thankful to family, friends, and fans, who have sent nothing but prayers and well wishes to Lamar. I also want to take a moment to thank everyone at Sunrise Hospital, including the amazing doctors and nurses, for their kindness and diligent work.”
Her life-saving emotional and financial support turned out to be taken for granted, though. Odom took advantage of Kardashian’s incredible kindness — she caught him using drugs again.
“He was in his bedroom, sitting on the edge of the bed, and smoking crack. I just punched him in his face,” she recalled in the documentary. “I just put my life on hold to f***ing take care of you. He was better than I knew. He was playing me so I can continue this lifestyle for him. I said, ‘By Monday, you need [to be] out of this house. I’m done. I’m not paying for a thing, and I never want to speak to you again.’”
Kardashian and Odom’s divorce was finalized in December 2016.
