Find the Best Gear on Sale With Our New Climbing Deals Finder
No, you’re not imagining it. The price of outdoor gear has been steadily creeping up, and your wallet has likely felt the impact. To help Climbing readers get out there without blowing their budgets, we’re introducing the Climbing Deals Finder.
What is the Climbing Deals Finder?
The Climbing Deals Finder is our hack for monitoring the best deals on outdoor gear across the Internet. This new feature aggregates discounts on climbing and relevant outdoor gear from retailers, including Backcountry and REI into one searchable hub. That way, instead of spending hours scouring the web for sales, deals, and discounts, you can go straight to the Deals Finder and know that you’ve got the lowest prices, right at your fingertips.
How to use the Climbing Deals Finder
Head to the Deals Finder by clicking the “Deals” tab in the navigation menu. From there, you can choose your own deal-finding adventure:
- Sorting by discount: Not sure what you’re looking for yet? We recommend sorting by “Biggest Discount” to bring the most eye-popping deals to the top of your search. Then scan through heavily discounted climbing shoes, approach shoes, packs, layers, climbing pants, and more markdowns.
- Specific searching: If you have a particular item, brand, or category in mind, you can search for it specifically. Try “La Sportiva shoes,” “Scarpa,” or “approach shoes,” for example, and see what the Deals Finder turns up.
- Sorting by price: Like on other retail sites, you can change your search to sort by “Price: High to Low” or “Price: Low to High.” That way, you can find gear that fits your budget. Heads up: Our data feed refreshes every six to eight hours, so if you see a slight discrepancy between discounts and inventory in our Deals Finder and the retailer, that’s why.
Tips for shopping climbing gear deals
As you use our Deals Finder to save money and time, keep these tips in mind for buying climbing gear online and on sale:
- Be strategic on shoe sizing. Climbing shoe sizing is notoriously hard to dial. Choose a deal on shoes from a brand you’ve worn before and know your size in. Alternatively, measure your foot and do a little deep dive on the brand’s sizing charts. Also check the comments regarding whether the shoes run large or small. If you can, hop over to a brick and mortar REI and try them on in person. Worse comes to worst, you can always return or resell them.
- Check return policies. Speaking of returns, sometimes deeply discounted gear is final sale. Check the return policy before you buy. And if you’re not confident the shoe will fit perfectly, accept the possibility that you may need to resell a final sale shoe at a local consignment shop or online.
- Don’t wait. If you see some gear you want or sorely need on sale, don’t wait. While the discounts may not go away, inventory or your size or desired colorway may run out.
