Rep Wins Defensemen Scoring Crown, Spruce Kings Dominate Eagles
Ozbej Rep entered Sunday’s game needing just a single point to lead the BCHL defensemen scoring race, so he got two in the second period.
The Spruce Kings got on the board in the first period at 11:33 when Cooper Faughnan sent it down low to Marcus Lougheed to fired one cross crease for Tai Ushio to bury upstairs for his 31st of the season.
Faughnan would be in the scoring again at 14:58, as he worked through the offensive zone and beat Brady Smith to make it 2-0. This was opened up by River Arnson doing great work around the zone with the puck after Lougheed poked it free to him.
The Spruce Kings took a 3-0 lead as Lougheed found Ushio who then found Faughnan in the left circle and he buried his second of the night to make it 3-0.
Just 25 seconds later, Rep got his tiebreaking point. He got the puck at the right point from Andrew Murray, and his quick shot was deflected by Ben Vreugdenhil under the bar to make it 4-0.
The Eagles responded on a 2 on 0 just 58 seconds later as Devon Mahil scored.
Prince George would capitalize on its first powerplay at 12:34 of the second as Ushio rushed into the zone before slowing and dishing to Lougheed. As he stopped to set up, he found Rep entering the zone and he hammered his 6th of the year home for his 52nd point and a 5-1 lead.
That would be all the scoring in the game, as the top line of Faughnan/Lougheed/Ushio combined for 10 points and swept the 3 Star Selection (Faughan – 1st, Ushio – 2nd, Lougheed – 3rd).
