Arnold stops 33, Arnason Scores winner
Cody Arnold made 33 saves and River Arnason scored the winner with 7:12 remaining in the third period as the Prince George Spruce Kings won their 33rd game of the season with a 3-2 win over the Langley Rivermen on Friday night in a Round 1 playoff preview.
The Rivermen got on the board first in the opening frame at 4:55 as Zachary Benayon scored his 36th of the season as he put the puck in an open net on a delayed penalty when Connor Jalbert went sliding through the crease taking Arnold with him. The play would be reviewed but the goal would stand.
Prince George tied the game later in the period when Mason Loewen took a pass up the middle from Robby Hoch and cut to the left before firing it back past the glove of Maverick Avent.
In the second, the Spruce Kings would get their lone power play of the game, and Carter Hesselgrave would get a tap in goal at 16:22 after Ben Vreugdenhil tried to tuck it home off a pass from Ryan Wachtel.
The Rivermen would push in the third, and eventually tied the game at 11:45 as Reinis Auzins got his first in the BCHL.
Just over a minute later, Loewen stripped AJ Valenti of the puck at the blue line and Arnason picked it up and walked in, making a great move around the netminder Avent to tuck home the winner.
Arnason was named the games first star, and Arnold picked up second star honours.
Prince George is off tomorrow before facing the Surrey Eagles at 4:00 pm on Sunday afternoon at South Surrey Arena.
The Rogers BCHL Playoffs kick off on Friday April 3rd at Kopar Memorial Arena with Game 1 against the Langley Rivermen. Tickets are available at https://www.showpass.com/pgskplayoffs2026/
