I’ll admit, I’ve had my old slides for so long I’m not even sure where they came from. As someone hellbent on finding the latest and greatest in fitness gear, I was fashionably late to the recovery shoe trend. And although I’ve long admired people rocking those "chunky-but-better-than-Crocs" look-alikes at the gym and the grocery store, I never officially pulled the trigger.
So, when Kane Footwear offered to send me a pair, I practically jumped through the screen to say yes. Now, instead of sporting my permanent outdoor shoes, I’ve spent the last few weeks rocking neon yellow Revive OBs around the house and at the gym after brutal Saturday leg days to see if they actually deliver on the recovery hype.

The Final Verdict
Being a recovery shoe beginner, I didn't have a baseline for comparison. While marketing usually makes these sound like a miracle cure, independent data is still pretty thin. And as someone who makes a living being honest about gear, I was skeptical whether this was actual science or just a fancy sandal. But even before testing the Revive OBs, the specs seemed convincing enough.
The footbed, for example, uses raised nodes to hit pressure points—something a 2022 review noted can help with back and joint pain. Beyond the massage feel, they also offer a 10mm drop and a structured fit that standard slides lack. Instead of your foot working to stay in a flimsy flip-flop, these actually support your arches and calves when they’re at their weakest.
Despite the better-than-your-regular-slide design, I'm still on the fence about whether my recovery time actually dropped, and the science hasn't given a definitive yes yet either. They definitely offer more support than my old slides, but I can't say for sure if they’re a recovery game-changer. That said, they're incredibly comfortable and total conversation starters everywhere I go.
Why You Should Trust Me
I’m the senior health and fitness editor at Men’s Journal, where I write and edit stories covering everything from workout programming and training trends to hands-on testing of some of the industry’s most popular gym equipment. I’ve spent the last decade consistently training and testing products, logging real training time with everything from adjustable kettlebells to cross-training shoes, recovery tools, and the latest supplements.
Most days, if I’m not writing or editing, you’ll find me in the gym, barbell or dumbbell in hand and chalk on my shirt, subconsciously trying to figure out what gear actually improves training and what’s just marketing.
