Tank Wrote a Song About Tyrese's Turtleneck Live on Verzuz — Social Media Is Obsessed
Since mega producers Swizz Beatz and Timbaland started Verzuz back during the COVID pandemic, the social media showdown of musicians has become a must-watch for music lovers everywhere. The latest battle occurred on March 26 between R&B giants Tank and Tyrese, and many viewers are hailing it as one of the best (I happened to agree).
Now Tank and Tyrese have chart-topping hits and have managed to build a legion of fans over the years, and both the hits and fandoms were on full display during the Verzuz battle. The two even brought out some of their celeb friends like Chingy, LeToya Luckett, and the one and only Grammy and Oscar winner, Jamie Foxx. But what many will remember most about this battle is the sheer level of pettiness that permeated the room.
Tank and Tyrese were jokingly going back and forth the entire night in a contest of egos. Tyrese teasing that he was the “headliner” and top dog between the two, and Tank throwing digs at his opponent for his several wardrobe changes. And on that note, the moment of the night was hands down when Tank roasted Tyrese for wearing a turtleneck.
Tank Makes a Hit Song about Tyrese’s Turtleneck
Tank had just finished singing one of his popular ballads and was waiting for Tyrese to return to the stage after another wardrobe change. To fill up time, Tank played to the audience, just riffing, and then he spotted Tyrese walking back on the stage in a suede blazer and a black turtleneck.
Tank just couldn’t fathom how Tyrese could wear an outfit that was clearly going too hot for the occasion and venue. So the “I Deserve” crooner naturally transitioned into roasting the “Sweet Lady” singer for his fashion choice via an impromptu song. What was even more remarkable about the track is that Tank’s band and background singers fell in line perfectly to create what has the potential to be a big hit. It should be noted that Tyrese was a good sport about it all. Take a look at the moment below.
Social Media Can’t Get Enough of Tank’s “Turtleneck,” Even Sparking Trends
Users on TikTok, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) have absolutely fallen in love with Tank’s track, appropriately called the “Turtleneck” song. They are applauding Tank’s level of petty and creativity, and can’t stop laughing at the joke, even cracking some of their own. Here are some favorite responses.

In addition to all the people commenting about the song, it appears they are joining in on the fun by participating in a new challenge of sorts. Individuals across social media are recording pictures and videos of themselves in turtlenecks, while playing Tank’s bop in the background. By the way, it looks like Tyrese has some defenders of the turtleneck.
