Pressing pause: Trump delays threatened action against Iran, gives regime 10 more days
President Donald Trump, who has been attempting to reason with Iranian officials to bring to a halt in the military destruction of that rogue Islamic nation’s nuclear weapons and military capabilities, had said just days ago that there was a deadline to be followed by a period of “Energy Plant destruction.”
That plan now is delayed.
Trump made the announcement on social media, with the statement, “As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 P.M., Eastern Time. Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Trump also said at a Cabinet meeting in the White House that the regime in Iran was allowing 10 oil tankers to transit the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow sea passage in the Middle East through which a goodly percentage of the world’s oil supplies travel.
He described it as a “present” from Iran, a statement that is in stark contrast to the Iranian statements that that nation is fully at war and attacking America and its allies.

.@POTUS: “They said to me, very nicely, through my people, ‘could we have more time?’… and if they don’t do what they have to do, I will knock out their power plants… and so, I gave them a 10-day period.” https://t.co/T17OXDhYF0 pic.twitter.com/6B6Si08bC1

Trump’s comment was that, “They said, to show you the fact that we’re real and solid and we’re there, we’re going to let you have eight boats of oil, eight boats, eight big boats of oil. I guess they were right, and they were real, and I think they were Pakistani-flagged … It ended up being 10 boats.
Trump has been calling for opening of the Strait, which had been declared closed earlier by Iran.
Trump earlier had announced plans, after a 48-hour period, to “obliterate” Iran’s power infrastructure.
Tehran, in recent days, has given little support to the idea that it is backing down, responding to Trump’s warnings each time with its own threats to retaliate.
A recent threat came from Ebrahim Zolfaqari, of Ioran’s Khatam al-Anbiya military command HQ, who said, “If Iran’s fuel and energy infrastructure is attacked, then fuel, energy, information technology systems and desalinization infrastructure used by America and the regime in the region willb e struck.>
Trump earlier said some sanctions were being lifted in order to counter energy prices, which had been soaring in recent days.
