Jennifer Yale is the showrunner for the series, and the two stars will be playing new original characters, according to Deadline sources.
Ryan Coogler is writing and directing the pilot.
Here’s the synopsis: “Two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents —played by Deadwyler and Patel — form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.”
The X-Files creator Chris Carter is one of the producers on the project.
“I’ve been excited about that for a long time, and I’m fired up to get back to it. Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really f–king scary. We’re gonna try to make something really great and really be something for the real X-Files fans, and maybe find some new ones,” Ryan teased during a podcast appearance in 2025.
The X Files originally ran from 1993 to 2002 on Fox, followed by a Season 10 in 2016 and a Season 11 in 2018. It followed FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) investigating unsolved cases involving paranormal activity.
