“I’m not disappointed. I’m trying to make the best of it. I give my all for Birmingham City. That’s a demanding enough task as it is,” he said.
When asked whether he would be happy if Rangnick were to name him in his squad, Klarer explained: “If it ever happens, I’ll be very happy about it, of course.”
“If it doesn’t happen, it’s just not meant to be. For me, it’s not a major setback. I do what I can control. The coach decides what happens in the end.”
On the possibility of making it to the World Cup this summer, he added: “I haven’t ruled anything out. But of course, I’m also realistic. There are other players in that position who perform well and play in good leagues. I’m simply trying to influence what I can.”
The Blues defender made it clear there has been no contact from the Austrian football association over the lack of recognition.
“I really enjoyed playing for Austria, I’m very proud to be Austrian. But there hasn’t been any contact with the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) regarding the national team,” the player said.
