Ariana Plane Veers Off Runway After Landing in Kabul
An Ariana Afghan Airlines plane flying from Herat to Kabul veered off the runway after landing at Kabul airport on Wednesday evening, the airline said, adding that no one was injured.
Ariana said all passengers and crew were safely evacuated and transferred to the terminal after the incident. The airline said the aircraft departed Herat at 5 p.m. and made what it described as an emergency landing in Kabul at around 6:10 p.m.
Witnesses told local media the plane tilted toward its right wing while landing before coming to a stop on ground beside the runway.
Videos shared from the scene appeared to show the aircraft resting outside the standard landing path, while ambulances and emergency teams were seen responding quickly.
Ariana said such incidents are “common around the world” and pointed to a recent aircraft accident in Canada as an example.
The incident comes as concerns persist over aviation safety and emergency response capacity at Afghanistan airports, which have faced years of operational disruption and limited technical support.
Kabul airport remains one of the country’s most important air links, making any runway or landing incident highly sensitive for both passengers and aviation authorities.
The runway excursion is likely to raise fresh questions about aircraft condition, landing procedures, and airport safety management, even though no casualties were reported.
