Trump to Visit China on May 14-15 After Iran War Delay
U.S. President Donald Trump will travel to China in May for the first time in eight years, according to a Reuters report published Wednesday, March 25.
The visit, which had earlier been delayed because of the ongoing war involving Iran, is now scheduled to take place in Beijing on May 14 and 15.
The White House said Trump will host Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington after the Beijing trip, as both sides prepare for what could become a major diplomatic engagement.
Trump said his representatives are finalizing arrangements for the visit and described the expected summit as an important event amid rising global tensions.
The planned meeting comes as the war linked to Iran continues to weigh on global markets, energy routes, and wider regional security calculations.
The talks are expected to cover trade, aircraft and agriculture, while more sensitive issues such as Taiwan are also likely to be discussed.
In recent months, Trump has increased U.S. arms sales to Taiwan and has also urged China to help curb Iran’s reported efforts to threaten shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The visit also comes as Washington is pursuing a separate diplomatic track with Tehran, including a recent U.S. proposal aimed at ending the war through mediated contacts.
Iran has already rejected the initial U.S. proposal and said any end to the conflict will depend on Tehran’s own conditions, underscoring how fragile current diplomatic efforts remain.
If the China visit goes ahead as planned, it could become a significant test of whether Washington and Beijing can manage wider geopolitical tensions while the Iran war continues to unsettle the region.
