Adam Boyes 4 Matlock Town 2
Redcar Athletic stormed to the Pitching In Northern Premier League East Division title thanks to a red letter performance from top marksmen. The Gladiators were blown away in the second half as Adam Boyes notched a hattrick in the space of fourteen minutes.
But that wasn’t the whole story of the night, and things could have turned out very differently had Matlock suffered two “misses” at the end of the first period. Bruno Andrade had a goal bound effort blocked on the line. Then moments later the debutant was hauled to the ground inside the box. However, Connor Washington’s tame spot kick was saved by keeper Josh Mazfari.
Then after the break came the Adam Boyes show and by 68 minutes the Gladiators were three down. Tommy Elliott pulled one back on 78 minutes only for Boyes to restore the three goal on 82 minutes. But that still wasn’t the end of the story as Wilson grabbed his a consolation from the penalty spot as the game headed into time added on. The Gladiators must now look to finish as high up as possible in the playoff picture.
Congratulations to Redcar.
