Americans Oppose Mail-Order Abortion Pills That Kill Babies and Hurt Women
As the Trump-Vance Department of Justice repeatedly defends Joe Biden’s Covid-era abortion drug rules in court, a new poll finds almost half (49%) of likely voters nationwide are less likely to support elected representatives who back mail-order abortion drugs (31% much less likely), with only 29% of voters saying they’d be more likely. Failing to take a public position is broadly unpopular, with 36-44% of voters across every demographic less likely to support elective representatives who are silent on the issue.

An 85 Fund survey conducted by CRC Research polled 1,600 likely voters nationwide in mid-March. A plurality (39%) of those surveyed described their views as pro-choice.
Seven in 10 of these voters overall support the FDA reinstating in-person medical evaluations, both before and after taking abortion drugs, to minimize the risk of complications and ensure women have ongoing care. This includes 61% of liberals, 66% of Democrats, 68% of Independents, and 69% of women.
Additional findings include:
- 62% of voters are more likely to support requiring in-person medical evaluation when they know abortion drugs are being ordered online by men and used on pregnant women without their knowledge or consent.
- A plurality (46%) of voters are less supportive of mail-order abortion drug distribution when they know about 1 in 25 women who take mifepristone require emergency medical treatment.

“Voters could not be speaking any more clearly on abortion drugs flooding the mail, driving up abortion rates and undermining protections for women and children. They recognize this is an urgent public health and safety crisis that demands a return to common sense, like in-person doctor visits that were required under the first Trump administration. We urge the Trump-Vance administration to end Biden’s Covid-era rules that allow these inherently dangerous drugs to be sold online and shipped anywhere in the country. Without oversight, they easily get in the hands of abusers who force them on unsuspecting and unwilling victims. Mothers and their children like baby Presley Mae in Texas, who was stillborn despite some of the strongest laws in the country designed to protect her, both deserve so much better.
“Ahead of midterms, pro-life Republicans must act and speak out boldly about stopping the mail-order abortion drug crisis. The worst option is to take the ‘ostrich strategy,’ say nothing and hope to deal with the problem down the road, if at all. Sitting on the fence makes no voters happier – it is a sure-fire recipe for avoidable losses this November.”
