Inside the Palestinian camp in Beirut where residents are staying put, for now
A FRANCE 24 team visited the Palestinian camp of Bourj el-Barajneh in the heart of Beirut’s southern suburbs, which are frequently struck by Israeli airstrikes. Yet here, many people say they have little choice but to stay. Bourj el-Barajneh was established in 1948 after Palestinians were forced to leave their homes in what became known as the Nakba (‘catastrophe’). Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon have evolved from tent settlements into permanent but deprived neighbourhoods.
