HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ TV Series: 6 Hidden Details in First Look

Good news for Harry Potter fans, HBO has revealed the first photo from the highly anticipated TV series.

In the drop, eagle-eyed enthusiasts pointed out a few key visual Easter eggs — maybe even more than a few.

Hidden 'Harry Potter' Easter Eggs?

In the photo, Harry Potter heads toward a wooden building, surrounded by students, and appears to be on Hogwarts grounds.

  1. Potter wears a maroon and gold cloak, representing his house, Gryffindor, as well as his house’s Quidditch team colors.
  2. Emblazoned on the back is the number 7, which represents the pivotal position he plays on the team as a Seeker.
  3. Clutched in his right hand, the end of a broomstick peeks out from beneath his clothing. That would be the Nimbus 2000, the character's first flying broomstick in the series.
  4. Hanging above the entrance of the wooden building are the banners of Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, featuring their colors and crests, along with the Hufflepuff badger and Gryffindor lion mascots.
  5. Next to the Hufflepuff banner, a white banner with red type reads: Fred and George. They would be the Weasley twins — Ron Weasley's troublemaking, wisecracking older brothers.
  6. And lastly, the snow-covered ground (and the team banners) in the photo might indicate towards a memorable Quidditch game where Potter cinches a win for his team by catching the Golden Snitch in just five minutes.

When Will the TV Series Air?

The small screen adaptation is set to stream on HBO in 2027.

The series will feature an entirely new cast with Dominic McLaughlin playing the titular character, Harry Potter.

Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will round out the best friend trio as Ron Weasley.

Unlike Warner Bros' film series, in which J.K. Rowling, the author of the book series, insisted all the actors be portrayed by UK actors, this time casting stretches globally with a diverse update.

John Lithgow will portray Headmaster Albus Dumbledore in the TV series, along with Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Professor Severus Snape.

Each season will cover one of the seven books. Succession writer Francesca Gardiner will head the small screen adaptation as showrunner, and Game of Thrones' Mark Mylod will direct several episodes of the first season.

The first book in the series — Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone — was first published in 1997. The fantasy series has gone on to sell more than 600 million copies worldwide, and its eight movie adaptations have cumulatively grossed $7 billion-plus.

The first teaser trailer will launch Wednesday, March 25.
