Girl, Interrupted: Afghan girls and women shut out of education, careers, and public life
Eve Irvine is pleased to welcome Mursal Sayas, radio producer/podcaster for Shakar, and a women’s rights activist. Once a pathway to individual & collective development, education has been abruptly stripped away ffom millions of Afghan girls. Ms. Sayas warns that this exclusion extends far beyond schooling, reaching into what she describes as the near erasure of women from public life. The mechanisms of control, she explains, are visible and intimate. They shape Afghan institutions and the dynamics within families and communities, in turn destabilising the very fabric of society.
