US Speeding Up Arms Deliveries To Taiwan
Officials in Taiwan say the United States is placing strong importance on the island’s defense and is trying to speed up delayed weapons deliveries.
According to a Reuters report, Taiwan Defense Minister Wellington Koo said Washington has set up a special team to help move weapons programs forward more quickly.
Taiwan has repeatedly raised concerns over delays in receiving US-purchased military equipment, especially as military pressure from China continues to grow.
Taiwanese officials said deliveries of F-16V fighter jets ordered in 2019 are expected to begin this year, marking an important step in strengthening the island’s air defense.
China considers Taiwan part of its territory and has increased military drills and pressure around the island in recent years, raising fears of a possible conflict.
The United States does not formally recognize Taiwan as an independent country, but remains its most important international backer and primary arms supplier.
US arms sales to Taiwan have long been a major source of tension between Washington and Beijing, with China strongly opposing military support for the island.
As regional tensions remain high, faster US weapons deliveries could play a key role in boosting Taiwan’s defense readiness and deterrence against potential threats.
