MAGA eats its own after stunning upsets in Trump's home state
Fans of President Donald Trump's MAGA movement ate their own on Tuesday night after Democrats flipped a Florida House seat.
Emily Gregory won the Florida House District 87 race against Trump-endorsed Republican Jon Maples by roughly 700 votes. The district includes Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, and drew national attention because Trump voted by mail, which he has sought to limit through the SAVE Act. Trump carried Florida's 87th district in 2024 by 11 points.
“While Trump is partying with his billionaire donors and building gilded ballrooms, Americans are being left behind and raising hell with their votes," Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin told Florida Politics in a statement. "Rep.-Elect Emily Gregory ran an incredible campaign focused on Florida families’ top concerns, from the skyrocketing cost of groceries and gas to the health care crisis Donald Trump has unleashed across Florida. If Democrats can win in Trump’s own backyard, we can win anywhere. From now until November, Democrats are all gas and no brakes as we compete across every corner of Florida and the nation.”
MAGA fans lashed out at Gregory's win on social media.

"Republicans really need to get motivated," MAGA media outlet 1776 America News posted on X. "Democrats are the biggest threat to the USA."
