Gaggenau Leans on Bauhaus Design With Latest Appliance Collection
In the world of high-end kitchen design, meaningful updates tend to come gradually. With the introduction of the Gaggenau Expressive Series, the company presents its first entirely new cavity appliance range in nearly twenty years — an update that reflects both its design heritage and a more contemporary vision.
The Expressive Series takes cues from Bauhaus and modernist architecture, focusing on clarity of form, and a reduced material palette. The appliances are defined by clean lines and a restrained visual language, with an emphasis on balance and proportion.
A central design feature of the new line is the floating control ring, positioned on the glass front of the appliances. This element serves both a functional and visual role, offering a physical touchpoint that integrates with its digital interface behind the glass. As Gaggenau User Interaction and Interface Designer Soeren Strayle explains, “With the display now hidden behind the front glass and the ring floating in front of it, we have created a tangible element within a digital environment where both worlds seamlessly merge.”
Performance, as expected, remains aligned with the brand’s pro-grade positioning. The ovens are capable of reaching temperatures up to 300°C, and include a high-performance heating system and full-surface grill, set behind Gaggenau’s blue enamel interior. Additional features include automatic cooking programs, a multi-point core temperature probe, and a pyrolytic self-cleaning function. The interface is designed to activate as the user approaches, and the door can be opened with a single touch.
“This new cavity series is significant because it’s the first completely new design in almost twenty years,” says Sven Baacke, Head of Design at Gaggenau. “It’s not just an appliance but a piece of art. This design balances tradition and innovation, honouring our roots while looking forward.” He also notes the series’ “two frames and a circle” design concept, which aims to unify form and function while refining elements such as joints, surfaces, and visible fixings.
The range includes ovens, combi-steam ovens, combi-microwave ovens, fully automatic espresso machines, warming drawers, and vacuuming drawers, all of which are scheduled to be available beginning in summer 2026. Each product is designed to integrate into a cohesive kitchen setup, while addressing different cooking and preparation needs.
According to Gaggenau Industrial Designer Alexander Stuhler, the intent is to go beyond basic utility. “The Gaggenau Expressive series stands out because it transforms the kitchen space into something beyond functionality. It’s about delight and pleasure—people connect with this design because it creates a unique experience.”
Dr. Peter Goetz, Managing Director of Gaggenau, describes the series as an expression of the brand’s broader approach: “The new series epitomises Gaggenau’s design statement… combining advanced culinary technology with intuitive design, offering a refined aesthetic and exceptional functionality for the discerning chef.”
