Sheriff In Nancy Guthrie Case Identifies That 'Something Occurred' on a Key Date Weeks Before Her Disappearance

The search for Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, continues after her February 1 disappearance, but Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos is now focusing on a crucial date.

According to the investigation, January 11 is a night that they are honing in on. Nanos explained to the local Tucson, Arizona, station, KOLD, why that day was important.

“We do believe that something occurred on Jan. 11 and that’s with the FBI’s analysis of the equipment and digital stuff they’ve done,” he said while noting that the date, originally targeted by Google from searching Nancy’s Nest surveillance footage, was still “speculative,” per People.

The reason why the FBI and local authorities want to learn more about January 11 is that there is an image of a masked intruder just outside of Nancy’s home. The suspect was not carrying a backpack like the images that were retrieved from the security device the night of her alleged abduction.

Without any specific individuals named as suspects for almost two months since her disappearance, Nanos promised he wasn’t losing hope in the case.

“We have so much in front of us. And we believe we have good evidence in front of us,” Nanos told the news station. “Will that dry up? Could I be wrong? Absolutely. Anything is possible, but we’re not giving up.”

Still, January 11 seems to be a source of confusion as Google has backed off from confirming that’s the official date for the retrieved footage.

NBC News’ Liz Kreutz told her Instagram followers on March 23 that “Nanos is the only official talking in an investigative capacity” about the new revelations. It’s more of a “possibility” that the suspect visited Nancy’s home on January 11, but he “cannot say so definitively.” Neither Google nor the FBI is currently speaking on the topic.

Savannah and her family are hoping to generate a renewed interest in the case with the January 11 date, which was mentioned in the KVOA News 4 Tucson’s special Bring Her Home: The Disappearance of Nancy Guthrie on March 21.

“We hope people search their memories, especially around the key timelines of January 31 and the early morning hours of February 1, as well as the late evening of January 11,” the Guthrie family said.

There is still a $1 million reward in hopes of locating Nancy, but the investigation remains stymied as the search reaches the two-month mark next week.
