Beloved Rock Star Shares Update After Scary Brain Tumor Surgery
New Found Glory's guitarist Chad Gilbert just shared an update after he underwent a scary surgery to remove three brain tumors.
The beloved pop-punk guitarist revealed the terrifying ordeal in an Instagram post on March 23. It all began on Feb. 20, when Gilbert was playing a show and had difficulty controlling his left hand. He also had trouble controlling his left leg, finding himself stumbling and falling. Three days later, he went to the hospital and received a CT scan, revealing the three tumors in his brain.
On Feb. 27, Gilbert had brain surgery to remove the tumors, and he has been recovering in the hospital for the last month. "I regained function of my left hand immediately," he wrote.
Gilbert assured fans that, while difficult, his recovery is going well. "[It] has been bumpy at times but I’m feeling much better now and getting stronger by the day," he wrote. "More stories to come when my brain is working well again. Love you all and am looking forward to sharing more music and fun with you as we come out of this."
Back in 2021, Gilbert had another bout with tumors — one that was nearly fatal. His wife Lisa Cimorelli, of the band Cimorelli, explained the ordeal in an Instagram post at the time. She found him unresponsive in bed and had to perform CPR until an ambulance arrived. After a week in the ICU, doctors discovered a malignant tumor on his adrenal gland that had spread to his liver. He then had to undergo surgery to remove his right adrenal gland and most of his liver.
"The last two weeks have been truly the most traumatic experience of my life," Cimorelli wrote. "I’ve never come so close to losing someone I love this deeply." She added, "I felt so scared yet so comforted, so overwhelmed yet so ready to do whatever it took to get us through this."
