Iran Warns on Strait of Hormuz in Talks with South Korea
Abbas Araghchi held a telephone call with Cho Hyun to discuss bilateral relations and the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
According to Iran’s foreign ministry, Cho expressed condolences to the Iranian people and raised concerns about the impact of US and Israeli attacks on Iran, particularly their effect on the global economy.
Araghchi said the current instability in the region, including rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, is a direct result of military actions by the United States and Israel.
He stressed that Iran would firmly defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, warning that security conditions in the region remain fragile amid ongoing strikes and counterattacks.
Araghchi also stated that the Strait of Hormuz would be closed to vessels linked to countries supporting attacks on Iran, while other nations could continue passage in coordination with Tehran.
The statements come amid escalating regional tensions, with growing fears of disruption to global energy supplies due to instability in one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes.
The Strait of Hormuz handles a significant portion of global oil shipments, making any threat to its security a major concern for international markets and energy-dependent economies.
As diplomatic contacts continue, the risk of further escalation remains high, with tensions around the Strait of Hormuz posing serious implications for global trade and regional stability.
