This Northeastern Town Got 32 Feet of Snow This Winter, and More Is Coming
Just ask any weather expert or meteorologist, and they'll tell you that the 2025-26 winter season just hit differently. Now, one Northeastern town has officially topped 32 feet of snow this season, making it the snowiest resort area in the U.S.
So, while most of the country has gotten a full dose of snow, ice and strong winders this season, one town stands above the rest. Now that spring has officially arrived on March 20, it's time to look back and discover this snowy city.
Vermont Town Got Hit With 390 Inches of Snow, or 32.5 Feet
For the 2025-26 winter season, Jay Peak, Vermont, once again claimed the title of the snowiest resort in the U.S. or Canada, according to research from Powder. "Early season storms in November and December were kind to the northeast and set them up for good coverage," Izzy Lidsky notes in a feature about the snowfall, adding that Jay Peak gets an average of 347 inches, which means they've surpassed it. Powder adds that Jay Peak's record is a total of 581 inches from the 2000-01 season.
Jay Peak Resort has up-to-date numbers on the town's snowfall, and according to research published in a Monday, March 23 feature, the town has actually gotten 390 inches of snow this season, or 32.5 feet.
March snow has put Jay Peak over the edge, with the resort stating that the month has "officially rewritten the script. With measurable snow on 10 of the last 11 days, we're back knocking on the door of 100% open terrain, and it's not done yet. Another 2-5" is on the way this afternoon into the evening."
The resort also reported fresh snowfall on Sunday, March 22, stating on X, "Yesterday delivered 6 to 8 inches, stacking us to 23 inches in the past four days."
So, there are a lot of snowy areas in the country during the winter months, but Jay Peak really takes the cake. It's a skier's paradise but not a tropical paradise.
Out West, Washington State Also Has Big Snow Totals of 274 Inches or Roughly 23 Feet
Meanwhile, over in Washington State, Mt. Baker had clocked 274 inches of snow by late February. But, that's actually quite a bit lower than the average.
According to the experts at Powder, "While that's a lot of snow and more than most other Pacific Northwest mountains have, Mt. Baker has still had a relatively dry year by comparison. The Washington ski area often sees more than 600″ of snow in a season, with more than 100 inches sometimes falling each month. This year, December saw 142 inches, but has otherwise been significantly below average."
So, even though 23 feet of snow sounds impressive, it's on the drier side for this legendary ski area.
