Is Twitter Down Right Now?
If you're trying to DM someone on X, formerly known as Twitter, and you're wondering, "Is Twitter down right now?" Then, you're in the right place.
On Monday, March 23, Twitter went down around 4:30 p.m. Eastern time, according to research from Down Detector.
Is Twitter Down Today? Yes, X/Twitter is Down for Select Uses in Chat
While the Twitter feed appears to be working well, those who went to their chat area were in for a surprise, because DMs were down for users. Those who tried to get to their DMs were greeted with the message, "This page is down. I scream. You scream. We all scream... for us to fix this page. We’ll stop making jokes and get things up and running soon."
The comments section on Down Detector were filled with comments of users wondering what was going on. "Let me in, please," one person wrote. "I just got the Twitter error screen of doom. What's going on now?" another asked. "Who wants to be Discord friends?" another asked.
It's worth noting that the X/Twitter app appears to be working fine with chats and regular posts, but the desktop version appears to be down. Also, while most users are reporting only chats and DMs are down, some suggest that other aspects of the site aren't working properly, too. So, either way, if your service is down, know that you aren't alone.
"It won't let me in. Gave me the page is down screen with a giant ice cream," another user said on Down Detector. "I scream. You scream. We all scream... for us to fix this page," another said.
So, hang tight, because the folks at X and Twitter are working on the issue, according to their error message.
Twitter got its start back in 2006, so they've been dealing with outages for decades. The company was originally founded in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone and Evan Williams and went public in July 2006. So, this month marks an anniversary for the social media giant.
Twitter's early days were known for its 140-character limit, which made it a "micro-blogging" site. Today, it remains one of the top social media engines in the world with more than 557 million active users, according to Statista.
