MAGA senator under fire after Fox interview
Senator Lindsey Graham faced bipartisan criticism Sunday after suggesting on Fox News that the U.S. should capture Iran's Kharg Island, comparing the operation to the World War II invasion of Iwo Jima.
When pressed about potential ground troops, Graham stated "We took Iwo Jima. We can take Kharg Island," drawing outrage from analysts and lawmakers.
Critics highlighted that nearly 7,000 Americans died and 20,000 were wounded at Iwo Jima, arguing Graham was cavalier about potential casualties. Representative Jason Crow (D-CO) countered that those service members "fought for our freedom," while Republican Representative Tim Burchett (R-TN) emphasized the actual cost of the battle.
Graham's comments come amid scrutiny of the Iran war, soaring energy prices, and voter concerns about inflation and cost of living.
