Odisha has recorded over 3,157 oral cancer deaths in the past decade, making it the leading cancer type in the state. Health minister Mukesh Mahaling attributed this to the widespread use of 'gutkha' and other tobacco products. Despite existing bans and penalties, over 42% of the adult population uses smokeless tobacco, highlighting a significant public health challenge.
