Shoppers Say This $9 Eyeliner ‘Stays Pointy’ — & Call It ‘The Perfect Liner’ for Hooded Eyes

There are few beauty products more capable of ruining your mood before 9 a.m. than an eyeliner that suddenly gets too blunt, skips across the lash line, or turns a tiny wing into a whole situation. That gets even more irritating when you have hooded eyes, watery outer corners, oily lids, or all three. Maybelline’s Sculpting Stix 2-in-1 Eyeliner sounds like it was made with exactly that kind of eye makeup fatigue in mind, and shoppers keep zeroing in on the same thing: the shape.

The $9 pencil eyeliner has a very slim angled tip on one end and a small brush on the other, which already gives it a leg up over the usual eyeliner pencil that works beautifully for about two uses and then becomes stubby. One shopper put it best in a review literally titled “Point stays Pointy,” writing, “Most pencils, once you’ve used up the fine point when it’s brand new, you wind up with a blunt thick end to try getting a fine line with. I love the fine point of this Sculpting Stix — it stays pointy beyond the first couple of uses.” That alone will speak to anyone who has ever tried to tightline with a pencil that had clearly given up on them.

The angled shape is also a big part of why reviewers keep saying it is easier to use than standard liners. In another review, a shopper asked, “Why aren’t all eyeliners this shape?” and called it “the easiest way to get into your lash line,” adding that the formula is “pigmented & creamy” enough to flick outward into a soft wing or smudge into something smokier. That softer, more forgiving application comes up again and again. One shopper wrote, “I like this pencil a lot. Love the angles shape of the product and especially the soft bristles on the other end for smudging. Great idea! Goes on smoothly with no tugging.”

And notably, shoppers do not seem to hate the brush, which is rare enough to deserve mention. Too many dual-ended eye products come with a smudger that mostly just wipes off the work you just did. One reviewer flat-out wrote, “This is the perfect liner, and the brush actually works unlike many products with a smudger/brush that just wipe the liner off.” Another called it “the easiest smokey wing liner in seconds!!” and added, “So buttery and glides easily and the brush is small but precise, I love it.” Another said the brush was “absolutely perfect for hooded lids like mine,” and even uses it with powdered liner too.

The shade range also makes sense for the way people are actually wearing liner right now. Along with Black Blur, the lineup includes Hazy Taupe, Mocha Contour, and Smooth Espresso, all softer, earthy shades that make it easier to define the eyes without immediately locking yourself into a harsh black line. One shopper said the brown was “the perfect shade — not too light or too dark.”

Then there is the wear. One reviewer with “watery outer corners” and “oily lids” said it “stays on pretty well,” with only a little smudging after more than 10 hours. Another wrote, “I don’t think it smears after a full day of work.” Really, that is why this one is landing. It solves several very specific eyeliner complaints at once: the tip does not immediately go blunt, the pencil does not tug, the brush is actually useful, and the brown shades look softer than standard black. If you have been cycling through eyeliners that make hooded eyes feel like a personal challenge, Maybelline’s Sculpting Stix sounds like a pretty convincing one to try for yourself.
