Day 23 of US-Israel Conflict With Iran: What We Know
On day 23 of the war, the United States and Israel signaled a possible escalation in airstrikes against Iran, amid growing regional tensions and continued exchanges of attacks.
Donald Trump warned that Washington could strike Iranian infrastructure, including power plants, if Tehran fails to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, raising fears of escalation.
The Israeli military said Iranian missiles struck areas in southern Israel, including near Dimona, injuring dozens and causing damage. Iranian state media, however, described the operation as “precise retaliatory strikes” targeting strategic Israeli sites.
Israeli officials also claimed their forces launched wide-scale attacks on more than 200 targets in Iran and Lebanon, including facilities linked to weapons storage and Hezbollah positions.
Iranian media Tasnim News Agency, reported that Israeli strikes hit civilian regions and infrastructure, causing significant casualties and damage, while accusing Israel of targeting residential areas.
According to Iranian authorities and the Red Crescent, more than 1,300 people have been killed and over 18,000 injured since the conflict began, though these figures have not been independently verified.
In Lebanon, officials reported more than 1,000 deaths and mass displacement, while Israel says its operations are focused on degrading Hezbollah’s military capabilities.
Meanwhile, tensions have extended to the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran is accused by Western officials of disrupting maritime traffic. Tehran has not fully confirmed the blockade but says it is responding to “hostile actions.”
More than 20 countries, including the UAE and Australia, have signaled readiness to help secure the waterway, as fears grow over global energy supply disruptions and wider regional conflict.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical chockpoint transit routes, handling a significant share of global oil shipments, making any disruption a major international concern.
The current conflict marks one of the most direct confrontations between Iran, the United States, and Israel in recent years, raising fears of a broader regional war.
With both sides exchanging threats and competing narratives, the conflict continues to escalate, leaving civilians increasingly at risk and diplomatic solutions appearing more urgent than ever.
