Gosport Borough 1-0 Poole Town – Match Report
Poole Town remain 4th in the Southern League Premier South following the 1-0 defeat on the road against Gosport Borough on Saturday afternoon.
The management duo made four changes from the 2-1 win against Taunton Town as they faced their former side.
The game got underway with Poole on top in the opening ten minutes, some intricate football led to Antonio Diaz whipping in a dangerous ball which was tipped over the bar by Lucas Thomas in the Gosport goal.
As the first half progressed, the home side grew into the game and created numerous openings with their dangerous aerial ability.
Harvey Slade went close to an opener, but his effort drifted just wide of the post on the 33rd minute.
Gosport fans thought they had taken the lead just ten minutes later through Michael Fernandes, his effort crashed off the woodwork.
With one additional minute added at the end of the first 45, Gosport did find their opener through a fine finish from Bradley Tarbuck into the top left hand corner as they went into the break with the lead.
The second half continued in similar fashion with Gosport in control of the game and Poole looking to strike them on the break.
The hosts went close to a second as Ben Greenwood’s effort was narrowly tipped over the bar by Adam Parkes on the 54th minute.
Shaquille Gwengwe had his first real chance of the game on the 70th minute, but his header was easily dealt with by Thomas in goal.
With the game nearing an end, it seemed like neither team were able to find the next goal in this one.
Poole sent a number of players forward in the dying stages in search of a late equaliser, but to no prevail as the full time whistle went with Gosport earning all three points.
Next up for Poole is a trip to Yate Town on Tuesday evening with Joe Lea and Pat Suraci’s side looking to get back on track.
