I Felt Like an Alien in My Postpartum Body—So I Tried This Pair of Shapewear Undies & Felt Like a New Person

Picture this: The “I think I’m gonna die in this house” song by Charli xcx plays in the background while I, a freshly postpartum human, try on my pre-pregnancy clothing in front of a full-length mirror while the baby naps. Attempting to fit back into my beloved wardrobe has been most a hate-hate relationship, even 18 months postpartum. My body, so much softer than it was before I got pregnant, still doesn’t feel like my own, even though I’m technically back to my pre-pregnancy weight.

And to make it very clear: The expectations on new moms to “bounce back” are obviously ridiculous and archaic. I created a human from scratch and birthed her—I’m literally not the same person I was, and that’s okay. But…I do want to fit into the clothing I love so much, and I want to feel good doing so.

Which is why I decided to test some of Shapermint’s shapewear products that promise support *and* comfort. Shapermint is one of the most popular shapewear brands on the market, and I’ve been getting served their ads for years before I became a mom. Now that I’m actually in the market for something that gives me tummy control, I want to make sure it’s the kind of shapewear that gives results and provides all-day comfortable wear.

The All Day Every Day High-Waisted Shaper Panty

What I like

The All Day Every Day Shaper Panty is my go-to for both everyday and dressier events that involve form-fitting dresses. It “sucks” you in, but doesn’t feel like a corset, which is how so many other shapewear products function. It’s like a pair of tight high-waist undies that comfortably smooth over anything you want to, well, look smoother. They stretch up, right under your boobs, giving you full coverage, and they actually do stay put, thanks to the anti-slip silicone waistband. The material is breathable, so I can wear these over my regular underwear or thong, and not feel like I’m doubling up. They come in various colors, so if you’re wearing a white or light-colored dress, you can opt for a pair that matches your skin tone.

What could be better

The only qualm I have is that they’re not the best fit if you’re absolutely trying to avoid VPL (visible panty line), like if you’re wearing tight jeans, or a dress that really hugs your booty. The line might be visible. Shapermint does have a thong option that I just haven’t tried yet.

I’m wearing the All Day Every Day Shaper Panty under one of my new favorite dresses I thought there was no way I’d look “good” in. Lo and behold, the shapewear undies make the fit ultra flattering.

I wore the Shaper Panties to a red carpet event for work: I was able to fit into a silk dress that I hadn’t worn since my pre-pregnancy days.

The All Day Every Day Tank Cami

What I like

I’m a person who has at least seven different black tank tops. Black tank top + jeans = my favorite outfit combo. I love the All Day Every Day Tank Cami as an option, because it does give you a more “slimming” look without sacrificing comfort. I prefer regular tops over bodysuits for the ease of wearing them, and I found that this one doesn’t ride up like how others tend to do. The material is stretchy, soft, and breathable, and I like that the straps are thicker, so I can wear my favorite bra and not worry about my straps showing.

What could be better

Honestly, nothing. This is the perfect, slimming tank top to wear with jeans or shorts.

What I like

I tested the High Waisted Active Shaping Leggings at the gym as well as at home during a WFH day, and was impressed with how comfortable I felt even though these were quite sculpting. The design works overtime in giving you tummy and thigh control, but like all of Shapermint’s products, you don’t necessarily feel like you’re wearing shapewear. I was still able to jog and lift weights without feeling restricted. I got pretty sweaty, and they proved to be really breathable and air-wicking.

What could be better

The Shaping Leggings aren’t *as* comfortable as my regular yoga pants. The material doesn’t have that same buttery feel, which is to be expected.

Final Thoughts

As someone who’s tested various other popular shapewear brands, I can confirm that, for the price, you get a really good deal, and excellent quality from Shapermint. The shapewear offers sculpting and smoothing—which you can see really works—without sacrificing comfort. It’s definitely helped this new mom feel more like herself in her new bod.
