Kirsten Dunst Reveals She Manifested ‘Minecraft 2’ Role for a Meaningful Reason: ‘My Dream Came True’
Kirsten Dunst was just cast in Minecraft 2, and she couldn’t be more excited about it. The Roofman star revealed the meaningful reason that she manifested this role, which she calls a “dream come true.”
“My dream came true ???????? ,” Dunst posted on Instagram on March 19, sharing a screenshot of an article that announced her new role. Fans and celebrities were quick to congratulate Dunst, with Alison Brie writing, “Manifesting!!!” and Elle Fanning commenting, “Unreal unreal !!!!!!!!!!!!”
The reason this is so exciting? Because she wanted it for her sons Ennis, 7, and James, 4, who she shares with husband Jesse Plemons. Entertainment Tonight shared a previous 2025 interview with Dunst, where she said she wanted to star in A Minecraft Movie sequel because of her kids. “I really want [“Minecraft 2”]. My son loves it so much. I just want to do something that my kids would love that I was in, and they would die if I was in that movie. Die!” she said with a smile.
According to Deadline, Dunst will star as Alex, one of the main characters in the game alongside Steve, who is played by Jack Black. Returning cast for the sequel include Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Matt Berry, and Jennifer Coolidge.
The Civil War star already has several movies her kids can see in her repertoire. She told E! News in Sept. 2025, that her kids have already seen Jumanji, “a little bit of Spider-Man,” and Small Soldiers. Now they will get to see their mom in another cool, family-friendly film, which was very intentional on Dunst’s part.
At an In Conversation event in Saudi Arabia in Dec. 2025, Dunst said that she keeps her sons in mind when accepting jobs. “I have two kids. I’ve been enjoying just being a mum and then just waiting for projects that really mean something to me,” she said, per Daily Mail. “It’s comfortable and really wonderful that I’m in a position now where I can really be very careful about what really speaks to me and what work I do.”
We are so happy for her — and ourselves. After all, seeing Minecraft 2 with our kids will be even more fun with Dunst on screen!
