Why This Chuck Norris Gym Selfie Went Viral Months Before His Death
Chuck Norris was still working on those gains well into his 80s.
The action hero and star of Walker, Texas Rangerdied Thursday, March 19 at the age of 86, his family confirmed Friday.
“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning,” his family shared on social media this morning. “While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.”
But just four months before his death, the late actor made headlines for an impressive selfie he shared from the gym.
Chuck Norris' Viral Gym Selfie
On November 17, 2025, a then-85-year-old Norris took to his Instagram page to share a photo of himself flexing his muscles inside what looked like a personal gym, alongside a motivational message.
“Here’s a photo I took several months ago,” he captioned the post. “Progress isn’t measured by perfection, but by the courage to keep going. I’m still setting goals, pushing forward and choosing discipline over comfort.”
He concluded: “No matter your age, keep striving for the best version of yourself.”
Social Media Reactions
The post went viral for Norris, generating more than 400K likes and nearly 6.4 thousand comments.
“Setting the standard! Awesome! ????????” one fan commented on the post, while another added, “Chuck Norris isn’t afflicted by age. Age is afflicted by Chuck Norris! ????????????????”
The latter, of course, is a riff on the “Chuck Norris Facts” memes that were popularized online in the 2000s, lovingly making fun of Norris' macho persona. Many of those started to go viral again after he shared this gym photo.
Other jokes, as covered by Buzzfeed at the time, included comments like, “You can't see because it's a photo but that bag in the background has been swinging for a week after he jabbed it.”
“Chuck doesn't lift weights...he pushes the earth down,” wrote another follower.
“Chuck Norris doesn't buy sleeveless shirts. The sleeves fall off when they see him,” read another funny post, while someone else commented, “No one took the picture, the camera took it out of fear.”
Norris' Final Instagram Post
Norris continued his workouts until the month of his death.
Just 10 days before he died, Norris shared a video to Instagram in celebration of his 86th birthday. In it, he appeared to be somewhere tropical—the actor died in Hawaii—as he sparred with another man outside.
“I don’t age. I level up,” he captioned the post.
“I’m 86 today! Nothing like some playful action on a sunny day to make you feel young,” he continued. “I’m grateful for another year, good health and the chance to keep doing what I love.”
He closed his post with a message to fans, adding, “Thank you all for being the best fans in the world. Your support through the years has meant more to me than you’ll ever know.”
TMZ reported Thursday that Norris was hospitalized in Hawaii after suffering a “medical emergency.” His cause of death is unknown.
