Chuck Norris Dead: Stallone, Van Damme, and MMA Stars React
Tributes to Chuck Norris started pouring in Friday morning, shortly after the late actor's family announced his death at the age of 86.
The action hero and star of Walker, Texas Rangerdied Thursday, March 19 at the age of 86, his family confirmed on social media.
“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning,” read the confirmation. “While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.”
His death comes after TMZ reported Thursday that Norris was hospitalized in Hawaii after suffering a “medical emergency.” His cause of death is unknown.
Celebrity Tributes to Chuck Norris
A staple of martial arts and action films, Norris' legacy was celebrated on Friday by his past collaborators, including a number of his costars from The Expendables 2. Released in 2012, it's considered his final major film role.
Sharing a photo of the two on set, Norris' costar Sylvester Stallone posted a tribute to Instagram. “I had a great time working with Chuck. He was All American in every way. Great man and my condolences to his wonderful family,” Stallone captioned the post.
Jean-Claude Van Damme, who also appeared in the film, remembered his late costar as well.
“Deepest condolences on the passing of my friend, Chuck Norris. We knew each other from my early days, and I always respected the man he was,” wrote JCVD on Instagram. “My heart and prayers are with his family. He will never be forgotten. ????????????????”
Dolph Lundgren also added, “Chuck Norris is the champ. Ever since I was a young martial artist and later getting into movies, I always looked up to him as a role model. Someone who had the respect, humility and strength it takes to be a man. We will miss you, my friend.”
The Six Million Dollar Man star Lee Majors—who appeared on Walker, Texas Ranger—shared a post remembering Norris to Instagram.
“We lost a dear friend [Chuck Norris] today… and my heart goes out to his family,” wrote Majors. “I know the millions of fans across the world are feeling this loss too, but for me, it’s deeply personal. I had the honor of working alongside him, sharing moments I’ll never forget. He wasn’t just a legend on screen he was a kind, strong, and genuine soul off of it.”
After saying he'd miss his friend, Majors then quipped, “Hey Chuck… maybe you can teach the good Lord a few karate moves — I know He’ll get a kick out of them.”
In the comments, Law & Order star Angie Harmon added, “I’m so sorry!! What a wonderful legend of a man!! ????❤️”
Priscilla Presley also paid tribute, writing, “I’m so sad to hear that my Karate instructor and friend Chuck Norris has passed away. He will be forever missed ???? -P????”
Meanwhile, horror author Stephen King began his tribute by sharing his favorite Chuck Norris jokes. Dubbed “Chuck Norris Facts,” the memes were popularized online in the 2000s, lovingly making fun of Norris’ macho persona.
“My fave Chuck Norris joke: Chuck doesn’t flush the toilet, he scares the shit out of it,” wrote King, before adding, “Second fave: When he was born, Chuck Norris drove his mother home from the hospital.”
He followed that up with a more sincere tribute, writing, “Seriously, I thought he was great. SILENT RAGE scared hell out of my boys...and me.”
Pro Fighters Honor Chuck Norris
As Norris was known for his martial arts work, a number of professional fighters also honored the late actor.
“SAD DAY! A true martial artist, a true legend,” wrote MMA fighter Roy Nelson. Before fighting, before all of us… there were guys like Chuck Norris paving the way. Much respect to a man who helped shape martial arts.”
Matt Brown, meanwhile, joked, “Word is Chuck was disappointed with the martial arts instructors in heaven so he decided it’s time to go there and show them what’s up! RIP to the legend though all love and respect.”
Bo Nikel also went the meme route, writing, “RIP to the grim reaper for having to meet Chuck Norris.”
The WWE as a whole paid tribute as well, posting, “WWE is saddened to learn that legendary Hollywood actor and pop culture icon Chuck Norris has passed away. WWE extends its condolences to Norris’ family, friends, and fans.”
Influencer and boxer Jake Paul's company, Most Valuable Promotions, shared a post in memory of Norris too.
“Rest in peace to one of the most impactful martial artists of all time, the great Chuck Norris,” they wrote. “A true legend and one of the toughest to ever do it. Your impact will live on forever.”
Politicians Also Pay Tribute to Norris
A handful of politicians also shared posts in honor of the actor, including Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
“Texas has lost a legend. All of Texas mourns the passing of Chuck Norris,” Abbott said of Norris, who was given the titles of Honorary Texan and Honorary Texas Ranger in his time living in the Lone Star state.
“He was not only a martial arts champion, action icon, and the one and only Walker, Texas Ranger. But he electrified generations of conservatives,” Abbott continued. “Giving them a passion and voice to fight for the principles that make America the greatest nation on earth. He embodied the toughness, grit, and patriotism that makes Texas supreme. Rest in peace, Chuck.”
Former Arkansas Governor and current ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee also thanked Norris for his support during Huckabee's 2008 presidential campaign.
“He was humble & kind,” Huckabee said in his lengthy tribute. “My heart is broken by his death. My condolences to Gena & his family. The legend may be gone, but the memories will never die. Thank you Chuck.”
Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu also posted a tribute to X, writing, “Sara and I were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Chuck Norris, a great friend of Israel and a close personal friend. Chuck brought martial arts and the warmth of his character to millions around the world. May his memory be a blessing.”
