PRISAM asks govt to soften up ban on extra lessons during holidays
PRISAM has asked the ministry of education to consider soften their decision of banning schools to stop extra lessons during holidays.
PRISAM General Secretary, Henry Kumwenda said that government should consider only students who are sitting for MANEB exams to continue extra classes.
“We understand the ministry’s concern because most of the time this rule applies to children whose parents cannot afford part time teachers because rich people always find special teachers to teach their children during holidays,” he said.
He said their plea is for the ministry to allow only form 2 and 4 students to continue learning.
“Let those willing be allowed to do so because at the end of everything all what we need is the nation to produce better results,”he said.
In December,2025, The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology directed all public and private schools to stop inviting learners to attend classes over the holiday period for a fee, deeming the practice unacceptable.
In a statement by , Secretary for Education, Science and Technology, Ken Ndala, the ministry instructed Education Division Managers, District Commissioners, Directors of Education and Sports, and Chief Education Officers to ensure schools adhere strictly to the directive.
