Nottingham Forest just made a big statement on Tottenham priority ahead of relegation six-pointer

Nottingham Forest’s approach ahead of their clash with Tottenham has raised eyebrows, with a clear decision made despite their ongoing European commitments.

Both Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur are desperate to avoid the drop this season as they remain very close to the relegation zone.

Spurs currently sit on 30 points and are 16th in the Premier League table, while Forest are on 29 points in 17th, making their clash on Sunday all the more important.

The winner of that encounter is sure to give themselves some respite as they continue to push for Premier League survival this term.

Nottingham Forest rotation signals priority before Tottenham clash

Nottingham Forest, however, had European commitments before they take to the pitch against Spurs on Sunday.

One ordinarily would have believed that Forest featuring away from home would give Spurs an edge this weekend, but Viktor Pereira’s latest selection showed where his priority lies.

The Forest boss opted to ring the changes in his side’s clash with FC Midtjylland.

The Tricky Trees were a goal down and needed to turn the tie around to progress to the quarter-finals of the Europa League, but Pereira still chose to rotate his side.

The Forest manager dropped eight first-team players who started against Fulham in preparation for Sunday’s game against Tottenham.

The likes of Morgan Gibbs-White, Elliot Anderson and Igor Jesus were all named on the bench, alongside Neco Williams, Murillo, Sels, and Ola Aina.

Despite this, Forest did manage to overturn the scoreline and book a place in the quarters via penalties. However, this meant playing 30 minutes of extra time, and most of Forest’s key players did end up having to play 45 minutes or so. Spurs will hope that the travel and short game time will at least add some level of fatigue to Sunday’s six-pointer.

Igor Tudor approach differs as Spurs build momentum

While Forest have rested their players, Igor Tudor opted for a different approach in Spurs’ Champions League tie with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

The Tottenham manager named a strong side as Spurs looked to overturn a three-goal deficit following their 5-2 defeat to Atleti in the first leg.

Spurs did manage a victory, even though they were knocked out of the Champions League, and are set to go into the clash against Forest in high spirits.
