Rick Pitino on Gerry McNamara: ‘Maybe we’ll see him at Syracuse’
By JAMES MADDEN
St. John’s head coach Rick Pitino thinks Gerry McNamara could be on the move up after his Siena Saints pushed Duke to the brink in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday.
In Pitino’s media availability in San Diego, he told reporters his thoughts on the ascending Siena head coach and candidate for Syracuse’s coaching vacancy.
“He’s doing a great job and maybe we’ll see him at Syracuse,” Pitino said Thursday, per the NY Post.
With Siena’s season officially over, McNamara could be named the new coach at his alma mater in the coming days.
The school fired head coach Adrian Autry last week, and USF coach Bryan Hodgson turned the job down.
Pitino’s Red Storm begin their quest for a national championship on Friday when they face No. 12 Northern Iowa in San Diego.
