Reporter Covering Bear Attack Gets Surprise Visit From Real Bear
Los Angeles-area news reporter Erin Myers got a shocking surprise while reporting on a bear attack in Monrovia, Calif. As she spoke on camera about how a bear attacked a woman walking her dog, a live bear casually wandered into the shot behind her.
"And yes, we all see that bear off to the right side," Myers' colleague said back in the newsroom amid gasps. They then cut back to Myers, with the brown bear just feet away from her.
The KTLA reporter then explained the lore of the bear behind her. The man who lived in the house she was reporting from claimed the bear had been living under his house for several months, and even has a baby. While it's unconfirmed whether that was the same bear who attacked the neighborhood woman, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife was there trying to trap it. They had even placed a giant bear trap in the home's driveway, and the bear almost wandered into it shortly after it appeared on screen — but apparently it was too smart.
The bear continued to wander along the sidewalk as Myers described the details of the earlier attack. The bear swiped the woman on the leg, resulting in only minor injuries, but surely in a major scare. When a car came driving by, the bear bolted into an uphill yard, disappearing from view.
Myers said other residents had also reported several bear sightings over the last few months. "There are quite a few bears in this neighborhood, people say. And we have seen a lot of people walking this morning," she reported. "Walking their dogs, you can hike in this area, a lot of people on bikes." Despite numerous bear sightings, neighbors said this was the first instance of an actual bear attack.
Funnily enough, Myers noted this was the second time a live bear had wandered into her shot. In October 2025, a bear appeared a few yards away from her and went dumpster diving in a trash bin. "Right in someone's front yard," one of the anchors said in awe, watching it unfold from the safety of the studio.
