FGRF gives K1m grants to families in Malawi
The Faizan Global Relief Foundation (FGRF) says it has given K1 million each to 100 families in Malawi as part of a programme aimed at boosting small businesses and reducing poverty.
The scheme was launched in Blantyre, with the organisation saying it plans to inject more than K1 billion into vulnerable households through the initiative, alongside providing business management training..
FGRF’s Africa head, Usman Madani, said the initiative is intended to help families become financially independent rather than rely on aid.
He said those selected have opened bank accounts to help track how the money is used, with follow-up assessments planned every two months.
Business figures have urged recipients to use the funds carefully.
Hanif Osman said discipline and careful investment would be key to ensuring the money leads to sustainable income.
Abdul Munaf Siku and Abdul Latif also stressed the importance of honesty, hard work and keeping proper business records.
One beneficiary, Ismail Amidu from Kambulaje Village in Machinga District, said he plans to expand his restaurant business.
FGRF said it has also distributed food aid worth more than K1 billion to over 30,000 households during Ramadan.
Its communications director, Ibrahim Omar Mataya, said the organisation would continue supporting vulnerable communities.
